Garratt’s Pencil Drawings capture the Art of the Farm!
“My Dad’s family were
farmers, and my Mom’s were small business owners in the
city, so my youth was spent with a foot firmly planted
in both experiences.
“Because I was isolated
from the day to day problems of farming, visiting the
farm was always high adventure: swinging on the rope in
the hay loft, learning to drive, learning to shoot,
snowmobiling, looking for arrowheads, and avoiding the
billy goat.”
“I admit that I went
through a phase where I couldn’t get off the farm fast
enough and had no desire to return. But, there was
always that little voice that kept reminding me that
there was a time that I couldn’t wait to get out to the
farm.”
“And now that I’m a
father myself, I have certain regrets about not having
the same experiences at hand for my sons.”
“But I know what I want
for my later years: a 21st century version of the Landed
English Gentleman. A nice spread with the prairie on the
left and the mountain on the right. Heirloom breeds of
animals and crops. An oasis of slowed down existence
where the cycles of birth and growth and seasons become
important again. A place to have sun shine on my face
and the snuff of breeze contains the scent of growing
things.”
“And a staff adequate
enough to do the actual work!”
